Features

Email

Digsby offers POP3 and IMAP support for almost any email service as well as pre-configured email services such as Yahoo!, AOL Mail, Gmail or Hotmail’s webmail, emulating a POP3 or IMAP client. After configured, email alerts which pop up a small window in the corner of your screen, alerting you of new mail. There is built-in email composition, which can automatically acquire email addresses from IM profiles.

Social networking

Digsby allows you to add social networking sites to the application:

  • MySpace: updates to your friends’ profiles, status, and private messages. Provides instant access to various parts of your MySpace account, such as your profile, home page, blog, etc.
  • Facebook: updates in your friend feeds.
  • Twitter: allowing you to easily submit new “tweets”, and view your friends’ tweets.

Future support for additional social networks are currently being developed.

Buddy List

Digsby allows users to customize their buddy list by ordering of all aspects of the buddy list, and skinning it for a personalized look. Status updates are instant. Users can set custom notifications for various actions such as contacts signing in and out, messages sent and received, etc. It supports metacontacts, much like Trillian’s metacontacts by a simple drag-and-drop system. Buddy list, IM accounts, widgets, and application settings are synchronized on Digsby’s server, so all your settings are transferred between installations on other computers.

Chat Logging

Digsby allows users log their chat conversations to html files that are then later accessed by the built in “Past Chat Browser.” The IM community is used to chat logs from previous IM clients which made the initial decision to switch to Digsby hard. Users did not want to lose their logs, and without a built in function to import their old logs, many decided to remain with their old chat client. The Digsby Log Converter was created by one of Digsby’s users, UFGrayMatter, to import logs from many of the most popular chat clients including Trillian, AIM, Miranda, Yahoo!, MSN, Gaim and Pidgin. With this Log Converter users are now able to switch to Digsby without losing their precious chat history.

Sidebar XP

May 2, 2008

Unless you’ve been living in a hut in the Sahara desert for the last few months, you’ll know that Microsoft Windows XP is no more, having being replaced by Vista. The new Operating System brings about a bevy of changes, including a revamped desktop environment, designed not only to look good, but also to improve your productivity. One of the key new features is the Sidebar, which replicates the Dashboard in OS X and allows you easy access to certain tools, such as news, web searching and your digital photos.
If you haven’t got the money (or indeed, the inclination) to upgrade to Vista, then you can recreate the Sidebar with this popular application. Despite a rather strange installation process, which fails to provide an auto-run function, the app can be set up and configured pretty quickly and comes with four useful preset ‘widgets’. The tools are a search function, image preview window, RSS feed and a rather elegant analogue clock.

Visually, all these widgets are pretty faithful to the Vista sidebar, although they lack they customisation options that you get with the new OS. For instance, the image tool doesn’t allow you to set the folder from which to display pictures, merely picking photos at random from your hard drive . All the tools are locked within a transparent bar that runs down the right-hand side of your desktop, which gets annoying after a while as there’s no way to minimize it and it ends up squashing any application window you open. Nevertheless, it represents an accurate taste of the instant-access functions you can expect in Vista.

If you are running windows Xp and want windows vista’s “sidebar” then this is your best bet.

Note:Install instructions provided in the rar file.

Nevertheless all you need to do is install everything in the requirements folder and then the vaioxp folder an finally the sidebar folder.
